Imagine a place where students from all backgrounds can come together, collaborate creatively, be challenged uniquely, and bond in once in a lifetime ways. As an educator I have explored how learning on a daily basis serves as an incredible foundation to bridge us in a collective togetherness.

Imagine a place where students from all backgrounds can come together, collaborate creatively, be challenged uniquely, and bond in once in a lifetime ways. As an educator I have explored how learning on a daily basis serves as an incredible foundation to bridge us in a collective togetherness.

What I love is these big, or sometimes very small choices can evoke emotions for the viewer and encapsulate thoughts and feelings in ways language sometimes can’t. Experimenting with different projections and qualities of energy is what makes movement an expansion of our language vocabulary. This is a big part of what makes dance universal and extremely powerful. The powerful exchange can transpire between performer and audience or between dancers while in the act.

I had time to think about, “what can I do to keep learning and feeling excited about my art form while dealing with this new environment and limited social contact?” An opportunity had arisen to create.

As a wannabe tough little athlete I could never expose my secret life of arts and crafts, and quiet journaling time that I would do alone in my room. This was a reflective and creative expression that I never thought could ever be tied to movement. Little did I know, there was dance.

I was able to apply what I had learned in my mentorship experience when choreographing for a group of students who were also beginning the program. It was fun to see the group push their own creative boundaries and facilitate a space where they could be comfortable in doing so. I hope to be a mentor myself one day so that I can inspire someone the way Jordan did for me!
